We do well in orbiting our hearts around the cross and the empty tomb of Jesus. But often in our haste to sprint to the grave with Peter and John on resurrection morning, a world of beauty goes entirely unnoticed. The believers of Jesus were haunted by sleepless nights at the thought that Jesus Was Arrested, that Jesus Is Dead and that Jesus Was Laid to Rest. And yet, the euphoria from the bombshell that came to them a few mornings later devoured the darkness of the previous three. When we tiptoe through Holy Week and immerse ourselves in the disciples’ experience of it, we will see the cross and celebrate the resurrection with a first century spirit.
